Corpus: Middle rectal plexus
1. Definition
The middle rectal plexus is a nerve plexus located near the rectum, specifically along the middle rectal artery. It is considered a continuation or section of the inferior hypogastric plexus.
2. Function
The medial rectal plexus is responsible for regulating the secretory and motor activity of the rectum. It does so by transmitting visceromotor fibres that control the rectal wall's movements and function, extending to the external anal sphincter.
