Corpus: Medial plantar artery
1. Definition
The medial plantar artery is a branch of the posterior tibial artery.
2. Course
The medial plantar artery runs along the medial side of the foot. It first lies above the abductor hallucis muscle, then between it and the flexor digitorum brevis muscle. Once it reaches the base of the first metatarsal bone, the vessel decreases in size and continues to follow this bone to the big toe (digitus I). It anastomoses with the first dorsal metatarsal artery.
