Corpus: Infrapatellar branch of saphenous nerve
1. Definition
The infrapatellar ramus is a sensitive terminal branch of the saphenous nerve that lies distal to the patella.
2. Anatomy
The infrapatellar ramus sensitively innervates the skin in front of and below the kneecap. Above the patella it communicates with branches of the femoral nerve and laterally with branches of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerv. Together they form a fine plexus of nerves, the patellar plexus.
After giving off the sensitive infrapatellar branch to the skin of the medial knee, the saphenous nerve follows the great saphenous vein.
