Corpus: Inferior vesical artery
1. Definition
The inferior vesical artery is a branch of the internal iliac artery that supplies blood to the lower part of the urinary bladder.
2. Course
The inferior vesical artery originates from the anterior division of the internal iliac artery. It frequently shares a common trunk with the middle rectal artery. The branches of the inferior vesical artery are primarily distributed to the fundus of the bladder. In men, this artery also supplies parts of the prostate and the seminal vesicles.
In women, the inferior vesical artery may branch off from the vaginal artery, serving a similar function in supplying the lower part of the bladder.
