Corpus: Inferior peroneal retinaculum
1. Definition
The inferior peroneal retinaculum is a broad ligament located close to the lateral malleolus of the foot.
2. Anatomy
The inferior peroneal retinaculum is the lower lateral extension of the Y-shaped inferior extensor retinaculum. It extends to the fibular trochlea of the calcaneus and serves as a reinforcement of the fascia over the insertion tendons of the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis muscles.
This ligament anchors the tendons and their associated tendon sheaths along the lateral edge of the foot.
