Corpus: Adductor brevis muscle
1. Definition
The adductor brevis muscle is part of the thigh adductor muscle group, situated on the medial side of the thigh.
2. Progression
2.1. Origin
The adductor brevis muscle originates from the anterior edge of the superior (ramus superior) and inferior (ramus inferior) branches of the pubis (os pubis), located between the gracilis muscle and the obturator externus muscle. Its fibers extend laterally, dorsally, and caudally.
2.2. Attachment
The muscle inserts via an aponeurosis on the linea aspera in the upper third of the femur (thigh bone).
3. Innervation
The obturator nerve (L2-L4) provides innervation to the adductor brevis muscle.
4. Function
In the hip joint, the adductor brevis muscle is responsible for adduction and flexion. It also aids in extension when the hip is flexed beyond 80°.
