1. Definition
The internal obturator nerve is a motor nerve branch from the sacral plexus that supplies the internal obturator muscle.
2. Anatomy
The internal obturator nerve contains fibres from the L5, S1 and S2 segments. The nerve leaves the pelvis below the piriformis muscle through the foramen ischiadicum majus and gives off a branch to the musculus gemellus superior. It then re-enters the pelvis through the foramen ischiadicum minus and sends its fibres to the internal obturator muscle.
