Definition
The anterior tympanic artery is a branch of the maxillary artery.
Course
The anterior tympanic artery runs from the maxillary artery superiorly behind the temporomandibular joint and enters the tympanic cavity through the petrotympanic fissure. There it branches out on the tympanic membrane into numerous small vascular branches and anastomoses radially of the tympanic membrane with vascular branches of the posterior auricular artery and with the carotidotympanic rami from the internal carotid artery.
Function
The anterior tympanic artery supplies the tympanic membrane.
