Course
The superficial circumflex iliac artery is the smallest cutaneous branch of the femoral artery. It originates close to the superficial epigastric artery. After passing through the saphenous hiatus and piercing the fascia lata, it runs parallel to the inguinal ligament laterally to the iliac crest.
The superficial circumflex iliac artery divides into several small branches that supply the inguinal integument and the superficial inguinal lymph nodes (Nodi lymphatici inguinales superficiales). It anastomoses with the deep circumflex iliac artery, the superior gluteal artery and the lateral circumflex femoral artery.
