Corpus: Spinoglenoid notch

The incisura spinoglenoidalis is a notch on the lateral aspect of the spina scapulae. It forms a connection between the supraspinous fossa and the infraspinous fossa.

The incisura spinoglenoidalis separates the spina scapulae from the glenoid. It is laterally spanned by the inferior transverse scapular ligament, forming a foramen. The suprascapular artery and the suprascapular nerve pass through the incisure.

Tears in the glenoid labrum can lead to paralabral cysts, which spread particularly in the spinoglenoid incisura. Compression of the suprascapular nerve can lead to denervation oedema and consecutive atrophy of the infraspinatus muscle.
