Corpus: Middle suprarenal artery
1. Definition
The middle suprarenal artery is a paired branch of the abdominal aorta that supplies the corresponding adrenal gland.
2. Course
The middle suprarenal arteries are small branches that arise from the aorta at the level of the superior mesenteric artery. They run laterally and cranially over the crura of the diaphragm, reaching the adrenal gland on their respective side. Upon reaching the gland, they form anastomoses with the superior suprarenal artery and the inferior suprarenal artery.
3. Variety
In rare cases, the middle suprarenal artery may arise from the coeliac trunk instead of the abdominal aorta.
