Corpus: Limen nasi

The limen nasi is an arched mucosal fold of the nasal cavity that runs along the lateral nasal wall. It separates the nasal vestibule from the nasal cavity.

The limen nasi marks the junction of two nasal cartilages, the cartilago nasi lateralis ("triangular cartilage") and the cartilago alaris major ("wing cartilage"). This is the narrowest passage of the airways in the area of the outer nose ("isthmus nasi").

The narrow passage in the area of the limen nasi is slightly enlarged by so-called nasal plasters, which lift the wing cartilage. This makes nasal breathing subjectively easier. However, the effect of these plasters is controversial.
