Corpus: Lateral plantar artery
1. Definition
The lateral plantar artery is a branch of the posterior tibial artery .
2. Course
The lateral plantar artery is larger than the medial plantar artery. Together with the lateral plantar nerve, it runs obliquely distally and laterally to the base of the Os metatarsale V. It then swings into the space between the base of the first and second metatarsal bones, where it joins with the deep plantar branch of the dorsalis pedis artery to form the deep plantar arch.
