Corpus: Fat

The term fat' refers to the group of neutral fats whose basic substance consists of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The term is often used synonymously with the term lipid.

In a figurative sense, fat is also used to describe body fat and thus adipose tissue.

In chemical terms, fats are esters of the trivalent alcohol glycerol with three unbranched aliphatic monocarboxylic acids, the so-called fatty acids. The entire compound is known as a triglyceride.
