Corpus: Excretory duct

The excretory duct is a section of the duct system of certain exocrine glands. The secretions produced by the gland leave the glandular tissue through it.

In a broader sense, in anatomy any structure that leads out of an artificial or natural body cavity is called an excretory duct.

A distinction is made according to the position in relation to the surrounding glandular lobules:

• intralobular excretory duct (ductus intralobularis): located within a glandular lobule, flat to cubic epithelium
• interlobular duct (ductus interlobularis): located between different gland lobules, embedded in connective tissue (connective tissue septa), cubic to cylindrical epithelium
