Corpus: Dorsal venous arch of foot
1. Definition
The dorsal venous arch of the foot is an arch-shaped vascular connection between the great and small saphenous veins on the sole of the foot, approximately at the level of the metatarsophalangeal joints.
2. Anatomy
The dorsal venous arch of the foot receives venous blood from the digital dorsal veins and connects to the deep veins of the foot, the intercapitular veins. It is part of the venous network on the sole of the foot.
Depending on the literature, the origin of the great saphenous vein in front of the medial malleolus is referred to as the marginal medial vein. The origin of the small saphenous vein in front of the lateral malleolus is called the marginal lateral vein.
