1. Definition
The dorsal branches of the spinal nerves are the dorsal branches of the spinal nerves.
2. Anatomy
The posterior ramus further divides into lateral and medial branches, each serving specific functions:
- Lateral branch: Provides motor innervation to the muscles of the lateral tract, which include:
- Intertransversal system
- Spinotransversal system
- Sacrospinal system
- Levator costarum muscles
- Medial branch: Provides motor innervation to the muscles of the medial tract, which include:
- Interspinal system
- Transversospinal system
Both branches also provide sensory innervation to the skin of the dorsal region.
