1. Definition
The term ligamenta obliqua refers to three cross-shaped bands between the anular bands of the long fingers of the hand.
2. Anatomy
The ligamenta obliqua are not consistently present structures and are sometimes entirely absent. Partially, only individual fiber bundles are formed. They enclose the tendon sheath and extend distally, where they radiate into the joint capsule of the interphangeal joints.
Based on their location, the ligamenta obliqua are classified as follows:
- C1 cruciate ligament: between A2 and A3 annular bands
- C2 cruciate ligament: between A3 and A4 annular bands
- C3 cruciate ligament: between A4 and A5 annular bands
