Corpus: Anterior communicating artery
1. Definition
The anterior communicating artery is a short vascular segment that connects the right and left anterior cerebral arteries. It forms the anterior part of the cerebral arterial circle (Circulus Willisi). It is emitted from the precommunicating part of the anterior cerebral artery.
2. Anatomy
The anterior communicating artery connects the two anterior cerebral arteries by bridging the beginning of the longitudinal fissure. The vessel is only about 4 mm long on average and can also be completely absent if the two anterior cerebral arteries form a common vascular trunk as a variation.
3. Branches
The anterior communicating artery gives off the following branches:
- Central anteriomedial arteries
