Corpus: Ankle

The term malleolus refers to the hammer-shaped bony projections on the tibia (see malleolus medialis) and fibula (see malleolus lateralis), which form part of the upper ankle joint as the malleolar fork.

Occasionally, the distal bony projections on the forearm, processus styloideus radii and processus styloideus ulnae, as well as the ends of the finger bones (phalanges) that can be felt through the skin of the hand are also referred to as malleolus.
