Corpus: Radial collateral artery
Definition
The radial collateral artery is a terminal branch of the deep brachial artery.
Anatomy
The radial collateral artery, covered by the lateral head of the triceps brachii muscle, follows the course of the radial nerve in a spiral 1/4-turn laterally within the radial nerve canal. It pierces the lateral intermuscular septum of the brachium during this course. Subsequently, the vessel continues distally between the brachialis and brachioradialis muscles until reaching the anterior surface of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. It anastomoses with the recurrent radial artery and supplies the cubital joint arterial network.
The accompanying vein of the radial collateral artery is the radial collateral vein.
Anastomoses
The radial collateral artery anastomoses at the elbow with the recurrent radial artery.
