Pelvic girdle

1 Definition

Pelvic girdle, bony pelvis or pelvic bones are labels denoting the bones in the anatomy which connect the lower extremities (leg) to the torso. The pelvic girdle is grouped together with the shoulder in the so-called limb anatomy.

2 Construction

The pelvic girdle of the human consists of the following bones:

The hip bone and the sacrum are hinged together via the articulatio sacroiliaca. Ventrally the two hip bones are brought into contact with one another via the pelvic symphysis.
