Origin of muscle

1 Definition

The origin of a muscle concerning the skeletal muscles is defined as the tendous or fleshy origin (Latin: Origo) of the muscle at the bone.

2 Background

Generally, the origin of a muscle is considered as less mobile and provided with a broader base than the insertion of a muscle. Considering the extremities, the muscle origin is located more proximal as the muscle insertion.
