1 Definition

The term digestive tract is used to denote the organs or organ systems which together serve in receiving, reducing in size, further transporting and in the absorption of food.

In clinical usage, the term is often used synonymously with "gastrointestinal tract", although the latter does not strictly take in the cranial portion of the digestive tract (oral cavity, tongue, etc.).
