Pulmonary artery

1 Definition

The right and left pulmonary arteries are the two vascular branches of the pulmonary trunk, which transport deoxygenated blood into the right and left lung.

2 Anatomy

The right pulmonary artery is slightly longer than the left. In the upper half of the thorax, it crosses the median plane and draws further right under the aortic arch in order to enter the right Hilum of lung in the right lung.

The left pulmonary artery is the shorter of the two branches of the pulmonary trunk. It penetrates the pericardium and immediately joins the left lung on the left Hilum of the lung.
