Pericardiacophrenic artery

1 Definition

The pericardiacophrenic artery is a long branch of the internal thoracic artery.

2 Anatomy

The pericardiacophrenic artery accompanies the phrenic nerve in its course between the pleura and the pericardium to the diaphragm. There it branches off into several small branches that supply the muscles of the diaphragm. The pericardiacophrenic artery anastomises with the musculophrenic artery and the inferior phrenic artery.
