Nerve pathway

1 Definition

A nerve pathway is a transmission pathway, that consists of a bundle of nerve fibers. These nerve fibers have the same origin, a similar target or function. A nerve pathway transmits electrical signals to the target organs.

2 Nomenclature

In the peripheral nervous system (PNS) the nerve pathways are termed „nervus“ and in the central nervous system (CNS) „tractus“.

3 Classification

3.1 Motoric pathways

Motoric pathways transmit the impulses from cerebrum and cerebellum to the muscles.

3.2 Sensory pathways

Sensory pathways transmit the impulses from sensation receptors of the body (surface) to the brain.
