Medial plane

Synonym: midsagittal plane, symmetry plane
Latin: medius - the middle one
German: Medianebene

The medial plane is a surface, which runs sagitally right through the center of the body and is fixed between the longitudinal axis and the sagittal axis. The medial plane is in accordance with the sagittal axis which runs exactly through the center of the body. It divides the body into two symmetrical halfs, so that they appear mirror-image-like.

The medial plane is vertical to the transversal plane and the frontal plane.
