Main bronchus

Synonym: bronchus principalis
German: Hauptbronchus

1 Definition

The main bronchi are the first two branches of the trachea (trachea) in the bronchial tree.

2 Anatomy

It includes the following:

  • Bronchus principalis dexter: right main bronchus
  • Bronchus principalis sinister: left main bronchus

The right main bronchus is wider and shorter. It is steeper than the left main bronchus and thus takes more of the direction of the trachea. Between the right and left main bronchus, an angle of about 60-80 degrees forms. The division point of the two main bronchi is called the bifurcation. This is the location of the carina tracheae in the trachea.
