Enarthrodial joint

German: Nussgelenk

1 Definition

An enarthrodial joint is a special type of the ball-and-socket joint. In this type the socket surrounds the ball head behind its equator.

2 Background

In an enarthrodial joint the movements are reduced because of the shape of the socket in comparison to a joint in which the socket surrounds a smaller part if the ball head. An example for this kind of joint is the joint of the hip.
