1 Definition

The chest or pectus in anatomy is the upper, front half of the trunk above the abdomen (venter).

The term is also used to denote the female breast (Mamma).

2 Anatomy

The bony basis of the chest is formed of the front wall of the thorax extending from the sternum and the ribs (costae). Behind it is the thoracic cavity (cavum thoracis). The muscles in the chest are called the pectoral muscles. These include, inter alia, the pectoralis major muscle and the pectoralis minor muscle.
