Synonyms: valva atrioventricularis
German: Segelklappe
The atrioventricular valves refer to the valves of the heart, which lie between the atria and the ventricles. In the human body, there are two atrioventricular valves, the mitral valve (Valva atrioventricularis sinistra) and the tricuspid value (Valva atrioventricularis dextra).
Atrioventricular valves are characterized by thin, membranes that are covered with endothelium. Out of the atrioventricular valves emanates the tendinous chord (Chordae tendineae), which is attached to the endocardial wall via papillary muscles.
