Posterior auricular muscle

1 Definition

The posterior auricular muscle is a mimic muscle that counts among the group of the exterior muscles of the ear.

2 Anatomy

The posterior auricular muscle is innervated by the facial nerve (VII). It originates in the mastoid process and inserts at the posterior edge of the ear. Its contraction exerts backward traction on the auricle.
