Pantothenic acid is a water-soluble vitamin of B-complex.

2 Structure

Pantothenic acid consist of β-alanine and pantoic acid.

Constitutional formula: C9H17NO5

3 Biochemical role

Pantothenic acid is a component of coenzyme A which has an important role in energy releasing processes like citric acid cycle and synthesis or oxidation of fatty acids. Moreover pantothenic acid is involved in metabolism of carbonhydrates, fats, amino acids and synthesis of steroid hormones and cholesterol

6 mg/day

5 Deficiency

Deficiency is very rare in human beings.
