Definition

The musculus austriacus consists of three parts. These parts are, in an order from proximal to distal:

In common, informal language these three muscles are referred to as the "Musculus austriacus", due to the red colour of the outer parts (skeletal muscle) which surround the white inner part (tendons). This combination of colours corresponds with the austrian flag.
