Ganglion thoracicum

1 Definition

The ganglia thoracica are located paravertebrally, autonomous ganglia, belonging to the truncus sympathicus (sympathetic trunk).

2 Anatomy

The thoracic ganglia consist of 11-12 ganglia pairs in each case on both sides of the spine at the level of the rib heads. They include the following nerves:

  • Nervus splanchnicus major
  • Nervus splanchnicus minor
  • Nervus splanchnicus imus
