Diathrosis

1 Definition

The term diathrosis referrs to the so called 'true' joints, which own as proper characteristics a discontinuity or a gap in between of the participating bone. Due to their characteristics they can be distinguished morphologically from false joints (synarthrosis), which own lesser mobility.

2 Background

Diathrosis own articulating joint planes and a articular capsule (capsula articularis). In between of the planes of the joint, there is the joint space. It is quite frequent for true joints to possess 'special adjustments' which support its functions. This special adjustments contain e.g.:
