Diabetic angiopathy
Diabetic angiopathy is a vascular complication of Diabetes mellitus. It is associated with calcification of the media of larger arteries with major effects in the microcirculation.
Diabetic angiopathy is a collective term for conditions specific to the diabetic state. Its severity is related to its duration and the quality of diabetes control more than to patient's age.
Severe consequences of diabetic angiopathy are
- Diabetic nephropathy
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Coronary heart disease
- Vascular dementia
- macroangiopathy
- microangiopathy
- generalized atherosclerosis
