Conization

1 Definition

Conization is the surgical removal of a tissue cone from the cervix uteri in the region of the portio (uterine orifice).

2 Background

In most cases, the reason for a conization is a pathological finding in the PAP test which potentially can develop into cervical cancer.

3 Classification

According to the shape of the piece of tissue to be removed, you can differentiate between:

  • flat conization
  • pointed conization
