Corpus: Triquetral bone
Definition
The triquetral bone is a carpal bone of the proximal row. Its name is derived from its roughly triangular shape.
Anatomy
The triquetral bone is located on the ulnar side of the wrist (carpus). It is bordered radially by the lunate bone and has the pisiform bone, a sesamoid bone, attached ulnarly. It articulates with both bones. Proximally, the triquetral bone articulates with the distal surface of the radius and is thus involved in the radiocarpal joint. Distally, the bone is adjacent to the hamate bone.
Clinic
Injuries to the wrist area can lead to a triquetral fracture. It is the second most common fracture of the carpus after the scaphoid fracture.
