Definition
The superficial transverse metacarpal ligament is a ligament composed of horizontally oriented fiber bundles that span at the level of the bases of the second to fourth metacarpal bones.
Anatomy
The superficial transverse metacarpal ligament is attached to the skin, the palmar aponeurosis, and the tendon sheaths of the finger flexors.
Function
The fiber bundles prevent excessive spreading apart the fingers.
